Our Purpose
- We are a small family-owned & operated orchard in South-East Manitoba.
- Our focus is to provide locally-grown fruits grown in a sustainable manner; we take seriously God's call to be caretakers of the Earth and we look for ways to reduce negative environmental impacts. You can read about our view on the philosophical differences between "sustainable" and "organic" agriculture in the "Sustainable Ideas"
- Our orchard is a way of life; it feeds our family first, and provides our community with a source of healthy and flavourful produce.
Who We Are
Kyle & Laura Friesen have four children ages nine and under! We are a family dedicated to Jesus and hope to serve God in all that we do, including our business ventures. We are thankful that our life situation allows us to homeschool our kids - we love the flexibility and hands-on learning opportunities that this lifestyle choice brings. We are also very close to our extended families and local church family, and they support us in a myriad of ways! Community and family is a very important part of sustainable living, and we strive to do our part.
"Around the Table" Discussions:
Our Story
Every spot on Earth has a story, much of it untold and lost to human lore. This land on which we live is special to me, and so here I will attempt to write an account our journey so that you may follow the forested trail that leads to our constantly-changing Present.
Mom's Kitchen
"Mommy is a good cooker" - according to our oldest child. Swap tips with Laura as she transforms the produce of our land into culinary delights, or preserves them so we can enjoy our fruit throughout the year.
Sustainable Ideas
Geothermal heat exchange. Photovoltaic electricity. Weed control, trap-cropping, mulching, and ladybugs. Why do we do things the way we do? Let's explore new and old ideas for taking care of the environment, increasing efficiencies, and improving crops and storage. Suggestions for new topics can be sent via the Guestbook on the Front Porch.
