Spring came late in 2013, which was actually great for our orchard. The snow over winter sheltered our fruit well, and there was minimal frost damage this year since everything started flowering about a week or two later than "normal". As I've mentioned elsewhere, our orchard is still quite young, and while we look forward to a decent crop this year, most of the produce will be sold to friends and family who have helped us out along the way!
Due to a positive response from our "beta" honeyberry customers, we decided to expand our orchard. We added around 30 new honeyberry bushes; we chose the highest quality cultivars available, including Tundra (U of S's top commercial pick for "Haskap Growers"), Borealis (the best-tasting cultivar), Indigo Gem, and Indigo Treat. We also added around 20 cherry trees, the sweetest cultivars available - Juliet and Crimson Passion. They will take a few years to mature enough to produce, but they will be worth the wait!
I've added a new page to this website, The Harvest, which will be our main communications centre for fruit availability. I was working on the honeyberry info, but just when I finished typing it all up we sold out of this year's crop, so I had to take it down again. We will hopefully have some available saskatoons this year, though, and if you contact us to be put on the list, even if we don't get to you this year, you will be early on the list for next year. Thanks for patiently waiting with us!
